There are lots of books out there! When figuring out what to read with your newborn, ask around for book recommendations from other parents, your pediatrician, or your local library – they can be great sources for helpful tips.
As you make your selections, consider choosing these types of books for your newborn:
Black-and-white picture books. Simple, black-and-white images and repeated patterns are best for newborns. They start to develop their vision and depth perception pretty quickly in the first three months of life.
Vocabulary picture books. These books offer easy, clear pictures and words to point to, read, and describe. They’re usually available in different languages, too.
